LINEAR EQUATIONS IN ONE VARIABLE
SOME IMPORTANT FACTS
1. An equation
is a statement of equality which contains an unknown quantity / variable.
2. Any value
of the variable which makes the equation a true statement is called the
solution or root of the equation.
3. Without
changing the equality, we may :
i)
Add/ subtract same number to/ from both sides of the
equation.
ii)
Multiply/ divide both sides of the equation by a same
non-zero number.
4. By transposing
a term means taking it to the other side of the equation with change of its
sign.
